Janey is highly intelligent, pretty, and destined for greatness. She has so many gifts and has been blessed with people who love her and care for her. Behind her false bravado lies a very deep and unsettling wound that controls much of her behaviors. She exists in a world just outside of self and she makes damn sure that no one will ever see the ugly just below the surface. Can the damage and the beauty coexist? Will she ever be beautiful and free?

Istology, the film shows how Janey operates in the world. Istology, written by Meridian Incident, is the soundtrack of the emotional undertow she works so hard to hide. Together, Istology is the study of human connections in the face of PTSD, and they offer a 360 degree view of the life long effects of childhood trauma.

This story is in many ways auto biographical. The author has been diagnosed with PTSD. The way Janey operates in the world is pulled directly from experience. The emotional depth of the album is very much a well the author knows intimately. This is a dramatized version of something very dark and real that sadly is experienced by multitudes of children every year. The goal of the film is to find other survivors and let them know there is hope: “a tiny light grows out of darkness; a chance to be beautiful and free.”
